Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) issued the statement below on President Biden’s speech on voting rights.

“Voting rights are the framework in which all other debates take place in this country. We are stronger as a nation when we live up to the very thing we claim to be at our core a democracy  built on that sacred idea of one person, one vote. President Biden is right: The democratic threshold is liberty. With it, anything is possible, but without it, nothing is.

“This is not some ordinary moment. We are at an inflection point. We are at a defining moment in our history. It is a moral imperative that Congress, as representatives of the American people, ensure every eligible voter can access the ballot box in order to protect Americans’ right to weigh in on their own government and the future of our nation. And history will judge us on the basis of what we do right now.

“We must pass voting rights legislation, no matter what.”
