Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Reverend Warnock and Jon Ossoff announced a new $6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to expand the tarmac at Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport. This grant will allow the airport to better serve its more than 900,000 passengers per year by updating and refurbishing the area where planes are parked, loaded, and refueled.

“This award is wonderful news for Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport and the employees and pilots who work out of this airport year round,” said Senator Warnock. “This crucial federal investment will keep one of Georgia’s most frequented airports running efficiently and keep Georgia’s beautiful coast accessible to the rest of the state—and country.”

“I’m proud to announce that Senator Reverend Warnock and I have secured $6 million for upgrades at Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport,” said Senator Ossoff. “Improving quality of life and creating jobs and opportunity in coastal Georgia is among our top priorities.”

This announcement follows Sens. Warnock and Ossoff’s announcement of a nearly $47 million investment from DOT to complete construction of the Northeast Georgia Inland Port in Gainesville, which would directly link local companies with the Port of Savannah by adding 324 miles of intermodal freight rail service.
