Senator Reverend Warnock Statement on President Biden’s New Immigration Executive Action

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) released the following statement on President Biden’s latest executive action protecting undocumented spouses who have deep ties to the United States from deportation:

“We know our current immigration system is broken, and while the President’s latest executive action does not substitute the need for Congress to pass comprehensive immigration reform legislation, it is a welcome step that helps make the values we hold and preach as Americans a reality for families that are already woven into our communities.

“As a voice for Georgians in the Senate and as a pastor, comprehensive immigration reform will always be my North Star. I will continue advocating for common-sense, bipartisan solutions that reflect our values, comply with our laws, support our immigrant communities, and honor the dignity of those coming to our country.”

Since coming to the Senate, Senator Warnock has been a vocal proponent of fixing the nation’s immigration system through comprehensive immigration reform, and a strong supporter of Georgia’s vibrant immigrant communities. To that end, Senator Warnock has advocated for legislation to provide a legal pathway to citizen for Dreamers, and recently, has supported measures to strengthen funding for border security and fentanyl screening. Ahead of President Biden’s expected executive action, Senator Warnock urged President Biden to streamline pathways to lawful status for undocumented immigrants with deep ties to the United States to help address the crisis at the southern border and will continue pressing for this and other reforms.
