Senator Reverend Warnock secured $9.1 million in federal funding for projects in rural communities across Georgia
The funding includes $855,000 to construct a community kitchen to feed children and seniors at risk of hunger in Savannah
Senator Warnock also secured over $1,000,000 for the Baxley and Appling County Hospital Authority to upgrade the hospital’s heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system
The funding was secured in the agriculture and rural development appropriations bill, one of the twelve annual bills that funds the federal government
The legislation now goes to the House; if passed, it will then go to the president’s desk to be signed into law
Senator Warnock: “These investments in public health and public safety will go a long way in ensuring our rural communities have the resources needed to deliver for Georgians in every corner of the state”
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) secured critical funding for public health and safety projects in rural communities across Georgia. The funding was secured in the agriculture and rural development appropriations bill, which is one of several legislative vehicles used to annually fund the federal government. The funding includes $855,000 to construct a community kitchen to feed children and seniors at risk of hunger in Savannah, as well as over $1,000,000 for the Baxley and Appling County Hospital Authority to upgrade the hospital’s heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system. Several of the projects receiving direct federal investments were championed by both Senators Warnock and Jon Ossoff (D-GA).
“As a senator for all Georgians, I am committed to delivering federal investments that improve the health and well-being of our state’s rural communities. These investments in public health and public safety will go a long way in ensuring our rural communities have the resources needed to deliver for Georgians in every corner of the state. We cannot let Washington politics get in the way of delivering this bipartisan funding to Georgia’s rural communities, and I will keep fighting until we get this across the finish line,” said Senator Reverend Warnock.
In addition to funding specific projects across the state that were championed by Senator Warnock, the bill includes $8.2 billion for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), a $603 million increase from last year. The bill also provides $1.7 billion for rural housing assistance.
