Warnock Secures Critical Bipartisan Funding for Defense Projects Benefiting Georgia’s Military Communities

Senator Reverend Warnock, working alongside Senator Ossoff, voted to deliver over $500 million for Georgia’s military base communities and families in the bipartisan funding bill–the largest military construction investment in Georgia since 2010

Senator Warnock secured over $127 million for construction of Dexter Elementary School at Fort Benning in Columbus

This generational investment in Georgia’s military communities was secured in one of the annual appropriations bills focused on military construction and veterans affairs

The legislation must now be reconciled with the House version before going to the president’s desk to be signed into law

Senator Warnock: “We cannot let Washington politics get in the way of delivering this bipartisan funding to Georgia’s military communities, and I will keep fighting until we get this across the finish line”

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) secured critical funding for defense projects benefiting Georgia’s servicemembers, military families, and base communities. The funding was secured in the military construction and veterans affairs appropriations bill, which is one of several legislative vehicles used to annually fund the federal government. The nine-digit funding total for Georgia’s military communities reflects Senator Warnock’s commitment to our servicemembers, their families, and our nation’s military readiness. This generational investment in Georgia’s military communities and installations is the largest military construction appropriation in over a decade.

“Georgia is a military state with 1 in 10 Georgia connected to our Armed Forces, so it was a top priority for me to secure the necessary federal funding to ensure our servicemembers, their families, and base communities have the support they need to continue defending our freedoms with dignity and ensure our nation’s military readiness. We cannot let Washington politics get in the way of delivering this bipartisan funding to Georgia’s military communities, and I will keep fighting until we get this across the finish line,” said Senator Reverend Warnock.

In addition to funding specific projects across the state that were championed by Senator Warnock, the legislation would also provide vital funding for the Department of Veterans Affairs (the VA). Senator Warnock voted to provide the VA $342 million to improve access to rural health care, including expanded access to transportation and telehealth, $3.5 billion to support housing assistance services for veterans and their families, $18.9 billion to get veterans the mental health services they deserve, $698 million of which is for suicide prevention outreach, $30 million to improve oversight and maintenance of privatized military housing, and more.

A champion for Georgia’s veterans, military families and servicemembers, Senator Warnock has been active in the Senate working to strengthen federal support for Georgia’s military communities. In 2022, Senator Warnock helped to pass the PACT Act, the largest expansion of veterans’ health benefits in decades. In 2023, Senator Warnock introduced bipartisan legislation to bolster access to affordable and quality housing for servicemembers. In 2024, the Senator expanded his leadership on military housing and introduced separate bipartisan legislation to improve military housing conditions for servicemembers. This year, Senator Warnock introduced legislation to allow spouses of fallen servicemembers to retain certain survivor benefits if they remarry. In March 2025, Senator Warnock led a bipartisan, bicameral oversight effort demanding answers from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth regarding issues in providing servicemembers adequate and healthy food on military bases following reporting on issues with food quality and access at several Army installations’ dining facilities. As long as Senator Warnock has the honor to serve all Georgians in the U.S. Senate, supporting Georgia’s servicemembers, military families, and base communities will remain a top priority for his office.
