Warnock Statement on Closure of GM GA Innovation Center

According to General Motors (GM), the Roswell-based Innovation Center will close in December

Reporting indicates the closure is due to increased tariffs and the Trump Administration’s walk back of electric vehicle (EV) tax credits, which is slowing EV sales

The center employs approximately 900 Georgians

ICYMI from the NYT: Slowing Electric Vehicle Sales Will Cost GM $1.6 Billion

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) released the following statement after General Motors announced it would close its Roswell-based Innovation Center. According to GM, the Innovation Center serves as a hub for software development, IT operations, and connected vehicle technologies.

“Reckless Washington policies are hurting our state’s economy. The Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill and the President’s reckless tariffs are directly to blame for the termination of hundreds of Georgia jobs at the GM Innovation Center. Folks in Washington are working for billionaires and special interests, not hard-working Georgians. I will always fight to protect pro-business tax credits and smart tariff policies.”

In his first term, Senator Warnock helped pass historic policies that spurred a new age of domestic manufacturing and increased demand for high-tech electric vehicles, including creating a $7,500 tax credit for American-made EVs and growing the nation’s charging network. President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill, supported unanimously by Georgia’s Governor and Republican Congressional delegation, rolled back key industry-boosting tax credits and policies, while the President illegally withheld money for states to grow their EV charging networks. These reckless policies not only harmed GM, but also Georgia-employer Hyundai, whose South Georgia Mega-site will manufacture EVs.
