Senator Reverend Warnock Statement on the Confirmation of Nancy Abudu to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals

Experienced litigator Nancy Abudu is the first Black woman to sit on the bench for the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals

Washington, D.C. — Today, U.S. Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) released the below statement following the confirmation of Nancy Abudu to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals.

“Nancy Abudu is a champion for justice and a stalwart public servant,” said Senator Reverend Warnock. “I’m pleased Ms. Abudu, a relentless advocate for the rule of law and a dedicated servant to communities across Georgia and the South, will soon sit on the 11th Circuit Court. As a voice for Georgia in the Senate, I look forward to continuing to confirm qualified public servants to the federal court system.” 

Nancy Gbana Abudu is the Deputy Legal Director and Director for Strategic Litigation at the Southern Poverty Law Center, where she has worked since 2019. Ms. Abudu was previously the Legal Director for the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida from 2013 to 2018 and Senior Staff Counsel at the American Civil Liberties Union Voting Rights Project from 2005 to 2013. Ms. Abudu served as a staff attorney for the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit from 2002 to 2004. She was an associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP from 1999 to 2001. Ms. Abudu received her J.D. from Tulane University School of Law in 1999 and her B.A. from Columbia University in 1996.
