Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) co-hosted the Annual Bipartisan Members Barbecue, bringing together Senators from across the aisle over the unifying power of Georgia barbecue. In 2021, Senator Warnock re-launched the annual lunch to honor Senator Isakson’s tradition of hosting a barbecue lunch for all Senators that helps foster fellowship and bipartisanship in the chamber. The lunch was provided by South 40 Smokehouse in Marietta and Bub-Ba-Q Restaurant in Woodstock. The lunch was co-hosted by Senators Chris Coons (D-DE), Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Thom Tillis (R-NC). Senator Warnock is rated as the 18th most bipartisan Democratic senators, according to the non-profit Lugar Center.
“I am thrilled to join my colleagues across the aisle in continuing this bipartisan tradition uplifting the legacy of the late Senator Johnny Isakson,” said Senator Reverend Warnock. “Johnny represented the best of Georgia, and I was honored to call him a friend. It is in his spirit of servitude that I will continue to break bread with my colleagues and renew our efforts to work together to better Georgia and our nation. And it never hurts doing so over some good old fashioned southern barbecue.”
Working in a bipartisan manner to serve all Georgians in every corner of the state has been a priority for Senator Warnock since assuming office. This year, he teamed up with Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) to introduce bipartisan legislation that would cap the cost of insulin for diabetic Americans at $35 a month, regardless of insurance status. The legislation has also garnered the support of Alabama’s two Republican senators. The Senator has also worked closely with Congressman Buddy Carter (R-GA-01) to secure full funding for Savannah CRTC in the draft government funding bill after it was put on the chopping block; collaborated with Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) to successfully include their Maternal Health Quality Improvement Act in the FY ’22 annual funding package; and just this week partnered with Senator Mike Braun (R-IN) to introduce legislation to fill vacancies in Early Head Start classrooms.
