Senators Reverend Warnock and Ossoff announced new investments to Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport and Augusta Airport to improve passengers’ experience

The Federal Aviation Administration will award $6.5 million in Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding to the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport and $3 million to the Augusta Regional Airport

As a member of the Senate Commerce Committee, which handles transportation policy, Senator Reverend Warnock continues to prioritize investments in Georgia’s infrastructure, including the aviation industry

Senator Reverend Warnock: “This critical federal investment in two of the most populous communities in Georgia will ease the burdens of flying and is great news for the travelers and workers relying on Georgia’s aviation infrastructure”

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) and Jon Ossoff (D-GA) announced new federal investments through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law benefiting the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport and Augusta Regional Airport. The $9.5 million in total grants from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will expand passenger holding room and improve security screening efficiency for travelers utilizing these transportation hubs. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law included roughly $619 million for Georgia’s airports to improve efficiency, upgrade terminals, and more.

These critical federal investments in two of Georgia’s most populous communities are great news for travelers and workers who rely on Georgia’s aviation infrastructure to do business or connect with friends and loved ones,” said Senator Reverend Warnock. “I’m glad to see that the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law we worked so hard to pass is paying off for Georgians, and I will keep fighting to deliver additional investments to every corner of the state.”

“Senator Warnock and I are delivering these upgrades to improve passenger safety and the passenger experience at Georgia airports through our bipartisan infrastructure law,” said Senator Jon Ossoff.

The $6.5 million investment in Savannah will support security screening checkpoint expansion projects already underway—adding 23,000 square feet to the south side of the terminal building, and an additional two screening lanes to create a smoother traveling experience for millions of flyers. The $3 million grant for Augusta will help rehabilitate the existing commercial passenger terminal building, expand the passenger holding room, and make additional maintenance upgrades.

Champions for Georgia’s aviation priorities, last year, Senators Warnock and Ossoff secured $13.5 million to update nine airports across Georgia, including Augusta Regional Airport and Columbus Airport. The Senators also previously announced $6 million in grants from the Department of Transportation to improve the travel experience at the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport.
